Transcript

For this week’s podcast on English.com, Beginner’s Podcast, we’re in London and we’re talking about London Transport.

Yes, yes. London is the capital of England and it’s a very big city.
Yeah, and there are lots of different ways to travel around the city.

Firstly, the London Underground.
The Tube.
Yes, we call it the Tube. The Tube is a great way to travel to, from and around central London.

There are, Richard, 11 lines and 272 stations.

Wow. Yes, and they usually open at 5 o’clock in the morning and close at midnight.
My favorite is the bus, the red double-decker bus.

So what’s so great about the bus?
Well, the buses are the cheapest London transport and when you sit on the top, it’s a great way to see London.

The top, the front seat of the bus, is the best.
There’s a railway in London too, of course, and there are different kinds of trains.

I really like the Docklands Light Railway.
Now, the Docklands are in south-east London. Why do you like the trains?
Well, the area is very exciting. It’s very modern, and the trains are driverless.

It’s very modern, and the trains are driverless. Oh, there’s no driver? No. So is that your favorite? Not at all.

London has taxis, trams and you can hire a bicycle. But my favorite form of transport is the riverboat. Ah, the riverboat. Yes.

Yes, travelling on the river is a great way to get around London. There’s no traffic. And… And like the double-decker bus, you can see many famous buildings of London.

From the water, yes. It’s a river bus, really. Yes, and for me, that’s the best way to see London.
