Belly up

Podcast Level: PRE INTERMEDIATE

Not the best of weeks for Jackie and Richard; what went wrong?

Some days are better than others, and some weeks are better too.

Yes, and so for this week’s podcast on English.com, we’re talking about a rather bad few weeks we’ve had.

So, Richard, what went wrong?

First thing was our dog Yussi. She became very ill.

Yeah, so we took her to the vets, where she had lots of tests.

Which were very expensive, of course.

And it seemed the problem was with her liver, and we were told to stop giving her her normal everyday pills.

And we had to give her some new medication.

But the problem with that is that her old problems then came back.

She’s got problems with her ears.

And her paws.

And ears.

All those old problems came back.

And it’s all very, very expensive.

However, however, we did take her to the vets today, and she’s definitely feeling better.

Yeah.

So that’s one good thing.

One of the family is getting better, but one is not so good.

Are you, Jackie?

No, I’ve had a horrid bug.

I spent two days in bed with a headache and a cough.

And just really…

I’m feeling tired.

It’s not been so expensive, though.

Not as expensive as the dog.

No, no expensive medication.

But I needed lots of rest and lots of liquids.

Endless cups of tea provided by the husband.

And I’m still feeling a little bit tired.

I’m better, but not 100%.

These things can take some time, can’t they?

Hmm.

And then Rich.

What happened to you?

I’m very healthy.

Good.

No health problems, however.

Somewhere between buying some things in the supermarket and getting into the car, I lost my wallet.

I know.

What a disaster.

So, of course, in your wallet, Richard, you had loads of cards.

Lots of things.

Bank cards, driving licence, ID card, money.

Of course, money.

Photos.

And…

And other things which I can’t even remember.

My whole life was in my wallet.

Yeah.

So, that has meant lots of paperwork to get replacements.

Yes.

I had to report everything at the police and I had to get on to the bank to cancel the

cards.

And, of course, now I have to get replacements.

Hmm.

So, that has been a real bother, Richard.

Yes.

But we’ve started.

The bank cards are in the post, I’m told.

And…

And today, I’ve ordered a new driving licence, so getting there.

Getting there, slowly but surely.

On the road to recovery, all of us.

See you next time.

Bye.

Bye.

Bye.
